Photo to video: how the AI works
The SNIMI.TOP photo to video AI turns a single picture into a short clip. You upload an image, write a couple of phrases about what should happen and get a 5, 10 or 15 second video. Everything runs online in the browser, no software to install.
Technically this is image-to-video: the model takes the frame as a base and builds the next frames so that the character, clothing, light and setting stay the same. This page explains how photo to video generation works and what you can control. Step-by-step instructions and ready-made motion prompts are on the photo animation page.
Photo → video: how it works
The source picture sets everything you see in the frame: who is in it, what they wear, where they stand and how the light falls. Your text sets what changes: the action, facial expression, camera movement and sound. There is no need to describe the looks again, just say what should happen.
A director sits between you and the model. It looks at the photo, reads the request and splits the clip into 5-second parts: where the camera is, what happens in each part, which sounds are heard. Only then is the final prompt for the model assembled, so you can write the request in your own words in any language.
Then the model generates the frames and keeps the face and body from drifting from start to finish. The director puts the main action towards the end and spends the beginning on build-up. That is why even a short clip looks like a complete scene rather than a random movement.
Generation takes one to ten minutes, depending on length and queue. The finished video is saved to your private gallery, which only the account owner can access.
- Duration: 5, 10 or 15 seconds. The price grows with length and is shown in the form before you start.
- Quality: Full HD 1080p by default, 2K for 5-second clips.
- Smooth video: 32 frames per second instead of 16, hair and fabric move more softly.
- Sound: a short voiced line with lip sync and background sounds from a list.
- Continuation: the last frame of a clip can become the source photo for the next scene.
Modes: camera movement, facial expression, scene
There are no separate mode switches: everything is set by the motion description. It helps to think of the request as three layers that can be combined in one clip.
Camera movement
The camera can stay still, slowly push in or pull back, orbit the character, follow them or tilt from top to bottom. Plain words are enough: the camera slowly pushes in, the camera circles around her to the left.
One camera movement is enough for five seconds. Several moves in a row look fussy in a short clip.
Facial expression
A smile, a look into the camera, a squint, a head turn, a breath with closed eyes. The model handles small facial movements best when the face on the source image is large and sharp.
If the character should say something, put the line in quotes or turn on the voiceover: the lips will move in time with the speech.
Scene
This is the action in the frame: the character stands up, fixes her hair, walks towards the camera, the wind moves the fabric, fire flickers in the fireplace. The place and clothing come from the photo, so the setting cannot be changed with text. If you need a different background, create a suitable picture in the generator first.
Sounds are part of the scene too: footsteps, rustling fabric, rain outside the window. Without a mention of sound the clip will be silent.
Compared with text to video
Photo to video fits when the picture already exists and it matters that this exact character moves in this exact setting. Text to video is for when there is no source: you describe the scene in words and the model creates the clip from scratch.
If the exact looks of the character matter, generate a photo first and then make a video from it. If the mood and motion matter more, start straight from text.
Which images work
Sharp pictures with good light work best, where the character is visible in full or from the waist up and stands in a stable pose. A blurry or small source is worth running through photo enhancement first.
The AI makes 18+ video from a picture only with fictional adult characters created by AI. Personal photos and pictures of people who gave consent are only for regular animation: a smile, a head turn, a camera move. Other people’s photos and pictures of recognizable people are not allowed, and both sources and finished clips go through automatic moderation.

Photo to video FAQ
Can I make a video from a photo for free?
Yes, with bonus coins. After sign-up you get 30 coins, and the exact price of a clip is shown in the form before you start.
How is this different from photo animation?
It is the same image-to-video tool. This page explains how it works, and the photo animation page collects the steps, tips and ready-made motion prompts.
How long does a video take?
Usually one to ten minutes. Long clips and high quality take longer, the result appears in your private gallery.
Can I make an 18+ video?
Yes, if the picture shows a fictional adult character created by AI. Real photographs are not used for such clips.
